Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin was one of the most influential people in America. He was a writer, a philosopher, a scholar, a scientist, an inventor and most importantly a diplomat and a polititian. He was one of the founding fathers of America. As he was asked, he helped draft the Decleration of Independence as well as The USA's Constitution.
He was born on January 17, 1706, in Boston. Benjamin was the 15th child of a candlemaker - Josiah Franklin. He learned to read at a very young age and ended his studies at the age of 10. He then became a full-time worker at his father's candle shop. In 1740s he expanded his studies in science and proceeded to invent many things, e.g. Franklin's Stove or an armonica.
Asked by his fellow politicians he helped establish and draft the Decleration of Independence and later on the Constitution. In 1783 he secured the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary war.
In 1748 he aqcuired his first slaves to work for him in his print shop. His thoughts on slavery evolved with time and at the end of 1760s he found the institution evil and inhumane and freed his enslaved people.

  1. He was a clever man if it took him only 12 years to figure out slavery was not a brilliant idea. :-)
