James Madison
James Madison was one of the most important people of America. He is "the father of America's Constitution" and the author of "The Bill of Rights" - one of the Constitution Amendments that guarantees civil rights and liberties to individuals like freedom of speech).
James Madison was born in 1751 in Belle Grove, Virginia. He, with the help from Thomas Jefferson, wrote the US Constitution - that's how his nickname was created. He served as the fourth president (1809-1817) and during his presidency he signed the decleration of war against Great Britain, starting the
War of 1812.

He retired in 1817 to his Virginia Plantation, Montpelier, where he spent supervising his large plantation holdings and slaves. He died on June 28, 1836 due to heart and liver complications.
So another one of the founding fathers who didn't mind having slaves.
