28.02.2021 - Denmark’s climate policies 'insufficient' to meet 2030 emissions target

The Danish government's effort to decrease greenhouse gases emission by 70% by 2030 has been called "insufficient" and have only met a third of the challenge. Further inspections by the monitoring body of the project's progress have revealed that the emissions will be cut off, not by 70%, but by 54% (comparing to emission levels in 1990). The government is currently working on two new 'energy islands' - one artificial and one on Bornholm, which will together supply 5GW of wind power.     In my opinion the Danish government's plan is great and I think that projects as such should be spread worldwide. Coronavirus really slowed down the process and they still managed to get a fair result. I chose this piece of news because I wanted to check on the progress of the whole project (me and my class visited the Danish Embassy in Warsaw half a year ago where we were presented to this idea).     Link  https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/28...

21.02.2021 - Myanmar coup: at least two protesters shot dead by riot police

At least two anti-coup protestors were shot by the riot police during a protest in Mandalay - the second largest city in Myanmar. One of the victims was shot in the head and died at the scene. The second person got lethally wounded to the chest and died on his way to the hospital.    Almost five hundred police units and soldiers deployed near the docks in Mandalay after workers joined the civil disobedience movement , refusing to work until the coup releases  Aung San Suu Kyi - Myanmar's democratically elected president .      In my opinion, Myanmar's situation is very frightening. It sparks a light in my head that such events can happen anywhere in the world. I think that we, people outside of Myanmar should unite to send aid to those in crisis. We are ought to help Myanmarese regain what everyone deserves - the right to freedom. Link: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/20/us-calls-for-myanmar-junta-to-stop-violence-in-wak...

14.02.2021 - Tanks on streets of Myanmar city prompt US embassy warning

The last few weeks were a hard time for the Myanmarese. Cities were swarmed by people protesting against the military coup, tanks showed up in Yangon, and shots were fired under a power plant in Kachin.      Yangon's American embassy warns citizens of the probability of high military engagement in the capital. There are speculations that the internet will be shut off in the country in the next 12 hours and telecommunication will be interrupted at night.      Interruption of the internet would mean that the protesters will be deprived of one of their best defenses and will make it harder to get help from other countries.      More than 384 detained and several people were injured by the coup.  The police used water cannons and rubber guns against the protesters.      Four were taken to a hospital, including a woman, that was hit in the head with a rubber bullet.

07.02.2021 - Myanmar: tens of thousands march against military coup

This week in Myanmar, people have been protesting against the military coup to free their democratically elected president. For centuries Myanmarese people have been under a dictatorship in which they had nothing to say about the future of their country.       In 2011 Myanmar started transforming into a democratic country. This year after a democratic election the elected president was taken and held captive by the military coup.     Tens of thousands united and started marching on the streets.  "Are we united? Yes we are!" people chanted on the streets.  The protests were peaceful and only 160 people have been arrested.      To paralyze the movement of its defence and help from people from other countries, generals shut off the internet to cut off the contact with social media and to keep the outside world in the dark     The president hasn't been freed yet and the protests continue.      ...

My plan for the second term

This term, I would like to work on extending my vocabulary range. Very often, I find myself using everyday words that tend to make my texts bland and boring. What I think is the easiest way to achieve my goal is to read different texts daily. It would not only help me learn new words but also find the best context for them. The other and more fun way would be to play 'memo games' that could help me better understand different words and find synonyms that I could use in my future works.
