07.02.2021 - Myanmar: tens of thousands march against military coup

This week in Myanmar, people have been protesting against the military coup to free their democratically elected president. For centuries Myanmarese people have been under a dictatorship in which they had nothing to say about the future of their country.

In 2011 Myanmar started transforming into a democratic country. This year after a democratic election the elected president was taken and held captive by the military coup.

Tens of thousands united and started marching on the streets. "Are we united? Yes we are!" people chanted on the streets. The protests were peaceful and only 160 people have been arrested.

To paralyze the movement of its defence and help from people from other countries, generals shut off the internet to cut off the contact with social media and to keep the outside world in the dark

The president hasn't been freed yet and the protests continue.
