Sleep - amount

Sleep is the most important thing in our life. It enables us to do what we do in our routine. Getting the right amount of sleep is the key to a happy and productive day. Too little and we feel weary, too much and we feel like we wasted a lot of time. Every single person has a sweet spot in terms of sleeping, although each age group has a specific recommended amount of sleep to minimise cardiac problems and maximise productivity. Newborns tend to sleep more than adults as their tissue and bones develop the fastest while in this state - they sleep between 12 and 16 hours a day. Elderly people on the other hand sleep less, between 7-8 hours, minimising heart attacks and other health risks. A popular myth says that sleeping less than 6 hours is unhealthy, which is true to some extent, but there are many people that have a condition called 'short sleep syndrome'. Said condition enables people to go with potentially less sleep than average adults, without putting them through serious health hazards.

  1. This reads like a general introduction to your topic: purpose, length, variability etc. It will be interesting to see in which direction you move next.
Try to be clear and precise. For example, this sentence - "Elderly people on the other hand sleep less, between 7-8 hours, minimising heart attacks and other health risks." - implies that having less sleep protects older people from various health risks. Is this correct?
