Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder which repeatedly prevents or stops its victim from breathing. The disease cannot kill people but the complications can shorten ones lifespan. It dramatically lowers ones sleep quality and makes it almost impossible to wake up well rested.
There are three different types of sleep apnea - obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea syndrome. The first occurs when ones throat muscles relax. The second happens when our brain doesn't send proper signals to muscles that control breathing. The last one is a combination of the first two and is the most lethal.
Loud snoring, gasping for air during sleep, waking up with a dry mouth and hypersomnia are common symptoms of sleep apnea. It's very hard to find out ourselves that we have sleep apnea and round 38 thousand people die from the disorder annually.

  1. I've read about it and it seems that some types of people are more susceptible than others, e.g. men more than women, obese people, older people. Is my info accurate?
